Script and lettering tattoos in Preston
Script tattoos are words you want to keep: a quote, a line of a poem, a verse, a song lyric, a name, or someone's actual handwriting. I do them at True Colours in Preston.
How I work
Lettering has to survive. Thin lines spread a little as they age. I size letters so they still read in ten years: small script stays simple, and fine line script gets a bit more room between the letters.
The style follows the words. A poem might want a soft cursive. A date wants something upright. A lyric might want the lettering from the album. Bring examples you like and I'll draw it in your proportions, rather than pasting a font on.
Handwriting tattoos
A signature, a line from a card, a note someone left. These are the most meaningful pieces I do. Photograph the original flat in daylight and I'll keep it true to the hand that wrote it.
Where it goes. Along the collarbone, down the ribs, inside the forearm, along the spine. Words follow the lines of the body, so I draw it on you first and you check it in the mirror before the stencil.
Spelling. Checked three times, by both of us, before the needle goes anywhere near you.

Questions about script tattoos
How much is a script tattoo?
A word or two starts from £70. A line or a short verse costs more, depending on length and where it goes. Longer poems are priced by the session, £210 for a half day. I'll quote before you pay anything.
How small can lettering go?
Small enough to still be readable in years, not just today. If your idea needs to grow a little to last, I'll tell you.
Can you do it in another language?
Yes. Bring the text written out correctly by someone who reads the language, and I'll copy it exactly. You check the stencil before we start.
